Amid the shadows of everyday life, I always make an effort to notice the little things that brighten my day: the gentle warmth of the sun, clouds floating in the breeze, a mushroom peeking out of a hole in a tree.
I was out running errands today, and decided to stop by my favorite boba shop for a strawberry sparkling tea. It’s cold and fizzy and sweet, but not too sweet and it has fresh fruit in it and squishy little jello bits.
When I got up to the register, the most adorable young lady was taking orders. Her long black hair was smooth and shiny. Her face was round and symmetrical. She was elegantly adorned. Let’s just say from an artist’s perspective, she could definitely be considered beautiful.
Anyways, when I was paying her, she gushed over me and said, “You’re so pretty!” She drew out the word pretty, and I smiled and swear I must have blushed.
Being called pretty by someone you think is pretty, in my opinion is one of the most meaningful forms a compliment can take. I giggled and said, “Wow. You know, I was just thinking the same thing about you.”
A compliment can do a lot. If you have praise for a person, definitely don’t hesitate to share it. As long as you are being genuine, it will always be received well. This young lady’s compliment raised my spirits dramatically, and with that new warm fuzzy in my heart, a light was cast straight over my heart, dispelling any shadows I may have been harboring.
I hope no one ever holds back a compliment you deserve.
Love always,
Rachel
