Writing Group

Ever since I heard there was a writing group in my city, I knew I wanted to join. I thought it would be a great idea to connect with other wordsmiths and provide me with a structured space to produce the work I had intended for so long.

After over a year of watching the group’s calendar and wondering what it was like, I finally made my move. I put it on my calendar a month out and braced myself for impact.

I went to writing group this morning. It was a pleasant surprise to see a handful of faces I recognized from other activities. People said hello, but then went about and settled in. I felt really lost and kind of just wandered around wondering where I was supposed to sit.

I was folded into the group by the event host. He introduced himself and the group, and showed me to a table with a few other people who all introduced themselves to me. My nerves slowly ebbed as we stood in a circle and shared our writing intentions for the day. Although I had been anxious to be in a new space with many unfamiliar faces, I quickly felt welcomed.

I got more done with my writing today than I had in the past couple years. Being around other people who are also quietly focused on their writing is a truly amazing experience. There was even another poet present!

I hope to attend more writing group gatherings, and to share my growth in this space with you.

Love Always,

Rachel
